A superb clearwing moth (Pennisetia hylaeiformis) in the garden this morning. Also present a surprise Ischnura pumilio which has taken up territory on the trampoline.

A recent trip to Endau-Rompin NP in Malaysia netted this superb chlorocyphid, Sundacypha petiolata.

mangrove pitta

One of the avian highlights of a trip to Pulau Ubin (Singapore) was an encounter with a pair of mangrove pittas that were busy nest-building.

red-legged crake - at last!

The only new bird for me during a month in Singapore and Malaysia was this splendid red-legged crake. If you are ever in Singapore for a layover head to the Botanical Gardens and work the Heliconia Walk (easy of Symphony Lake) in the late afternoon and get ready for stellar views.

Chalybeothemis chini

Enjoying a recce in southern Peninsular Malaysia, chasing a few of the species missed in the 2013 tour. One of the recent highlights was this Chalybeothemis chini. Described as recently as 2007 by the great Dow and still only known from the type locality (Tasek Chini) and two other locations. (Kepong Botanical Gardens, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.)
