ortolan

Martin Gierow found this superb ortolan bunting at Dalen today and luckily I was birding nearby. On arrival another Martin (Ekenberg) put me straight on the bird. Job done. Sadly the bank holiday weekend meant plenty of foot traffic past the bird and it was soon flushed into the sea of bushes on Gröthögarna.

After flushing two probable little buntings at the end of October at Grytskären, then Paul Cook's solo sighting of a single there in mid November, I was really pleased when twitching a year-tick black redstart produced this little beauty at nearby Lervik. One of a number attempting to winter in Sweden this season.

There are plenty of odonates I have only seen once and would dearly like to see again. Libellago phaeton of Borneo is one of them.
